Sunrooms in California

People have always enjoyed gathering outdoors. Early sunrooms started out as basic screened-in porches to keep out unwanted elements and soon evolved into full standalone structures. Sunrooms come in all shapes and sizes and are common now throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Sunrooms are also known as solariums or sun porches. Sunrooms, or solaria, comes from the Latin term, sol, meaning sun. Sunrooms became popular and widespread from greenhouses. Greenhouses are structures made mostly of windowpanes to harness solar heat for growing plants, trees, and flowers in cold weather. It is believed that greenhouses were first constructed in Italy in the 16th century. Greenhouses were often called conservatories because they were used for conserving plant life.
